The class went well, I really enjoy the 10 or so ppl in the class. It’s very intimate and we’re all able to openly discuss our issues with weight, our pschye, confidence, etc. This one guy named Wallace is hilarrrr – typical big funny guy, outspoken, you name it. He’s a softy too, but I can really relate to some of these people and breathe ‘easier’ knowing that I’m legit not the only one who was Sybil-like battles going on in my head with food.
This class focused on Physical Hunger vs. Mind Hunger. A great topic for many of us, especially myself, who is an emotional eater to a T!… One of my goals this week is to practice mindfully eating. One of the practice techniques the Psychologist is having us do is: savor, smell, use all five senses (so to speak) when eating our very first 2 bites of any meal we consume. Not only will it help us to be aware of all the different flavors and aromas, but will help us to slow down and truly learn to enjoy our food. I’m so used to scarfing/shoveling food in… so this exercise has been interesting for today.
I definitely never take the time to taste tasteeee my food. There’s a lot of flavors and aromas in the food I eat that I never notice (ie: the basil in the tomato/meat sauce in my Lean Cuisine spaghetti)! Try the exercise out… I can see this definitely helping me to be aware of all the flavors while helping me enjoying the food I do consume.
